Circular Sustainability-My new found knowledge-The Solution

Image
A sustainable circular economy  involves designing and promoting products that last and that can be reused, repaired and remanufactured . This retains the functional value of products, rather than just recovering the energy or materials they contain and continuously making products anew. The circular economy approach  will use fewer resources and energy , while at the same time being more carbon-efficient and maximising waste reduction. It means designing out waste from the beginning, rather than relying solely on waste recycling at the end of the chain. Over the last 150 years, our industrial economy has been dominated by a one-way model of production and consumption in which goods are manufactured from raw materials, sold, used, and then incinerated or discarded to landfills. This approach is unsustainable by its very nature. This linear structure is based on two large assumptions: boundless availability of resources (energy and raw materials) and a limitless regenera...

Designing a sustainable future-Green Buildings, benefits of green buildings, understanding Green economy --My inquiry for LOI 4-

Image
Sustainability is important for many reasons including  Environmental Quality  – In order to have healthy communities, we need clean air, natural resources, and a nontoxic environment.    Sustainable construction means  using recyclable and renewable materials in building projects and minimizing energy consumption and waste production .  The primary goal of the sustainable construction method is to reduce its impact on our environment. Sustainable construction does not end after the completion of the building project, the design of the building itself should have a minimal impact on the environment over the structure's lifespan. It means that the design of the building should incorporate elements and materials that have a continuous influence on the structure's environmental impact. These can include  energy-efficient roof hatches  on the rooftop, solar panels, appropriate insulation to prevent heat loss, and minimizing energy consumption from the...

Renewable energy and Fossil fuels, advantages and disadvantages of renewable energy

Image
Renewable energy is  energy from sources that are naturally replenishing but flow-limited ; renewable resources are virtually inexhaustible in duration but limited in the amount of energy that is available per unit of time. Renewable energy sources are  energy sources that are always being replenished . They can never be depleted. Some examples of renewable energy sources are solar energy, wind energy, hydropower, geothermal energy, and biomass energy. The major types or sources of renewable energy are: Solar energy from the sun. Geothermal energy from heat inside the earth. Wind energy. Biomass from plants. Hydropower from flowing water Tidal Power. What are the uses of renewable energy? All sources of renewable energy are used  to generate electric power . In addition, geothermal steam is used directly for heating and cooking. Biomass and solar sources are also used for space and water heating. Ethanol and biodiesel (and to a lesser extent, gaseous biomethane) ar...

Personal Connect-INDIA Focus on SDG tracker-NITI AAYOG

‘India Taking Rapid Strides Towards Its Sustainability Goals’ For for LOI 3  & 4 Personal Connect- I have selected to research where does India stand  During the panel discussion, it was unanimously agreed that India has the onerous task of achieving those SDGs especially since greenhouse gases emitted by it is the third-largest in the world at 7% of global emissions.  India has made steady progress towards achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in areas of health, energy, and infrastructure , As per NITI Aayog's latest SDG India Index. India's overall score across SDGs improved by 6 points; from 60 in 2019 to 66 in 2020-21. There have been nationwide improvements in ‘clean water and sanitation and ‘affordable and clean energy. Kerala achieved the highest overall score in the Index followed by Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Goa. The third edition of the Index highlighted the significance of partnerships in achieving...

SDG 13 Climate Action-my focus-Ozone layer depletion,climate change,Green house gases,global warming

Introduction: The Sustainable Development Goals were created in Rio de Janeiro in 2012 at the Uni ted Nations Conference on Sustainable Development. They served as a replacement for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that were created in 2000 as part of a global effort to fight poverty and hunger. In September 2015, the General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Building on the principle of “leaving no one behind”, the new Agenda emphasizes a holistic approach to achieving sustainable development for all. The 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) to transform our world: GOAL 1: No Poverty GOAL 2: Zero Hunger GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being GOAL 4: Quality Education GOAL 5: Gender Equality GOAL 6: Clean Water and Sanitation GOAL 7: Affordable and Clean Energy GOAL 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth GOAL 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure GOAL 10: Reduced Inequality GOAL 11: Sustainable Cit...
